RUBRIC!!

Here´s what you need to write your summary!

Read it carefully, let me know if you have any doubts.

4                              3                              2                             1
Organization
The summary begins with a clear topic sen- tence that states the main idea of the origi- nal selection; all other major points are stated economically and arranged in logical order; a concluding sentence effectively brings the summary to a close, but no details or reflections are added; the writing is unified and coherent throughout.
The summary begins with a topic sentence that states the main idea of the original se- lection; all other major ideas are stated and arranged in a generally logical order; a con-
cluding sentence brings the summary to a close, but extraneous details
or reflections may be added; the progression of ideas and informa- tion is, for the most part, logical.
The summary may or may not state the main idea of the original se- lection, or it may not do so at the beginning; it states some, but not
all, major ideas and not necessarily in a logical order; the summary may lack a conclusion or include extraneous details or reflections; the development of ideas is not completely logical or coherent.
The summary does not state the main idea of the original selection; it states few major ideas and does not use a logi- cal order; it lacks a con- clusion and includes extraneous or minor details or reflections;
the writing lacks unity and coherence.
Elements of
Summaries
The overall purpose of the summary is clear; the summary ex- presses only the main idea and major points of the original selec- tion; Word choice is consis- tently efficient and concise.
The purpose is gener- ally clear; the summary expresses only the
main idea and most major points of the original selection; Word choice is fairly concise.
The purpose wavers; the summary does not accurately express the main idea or most major points of the original selection;
Word choice is vague
or repetitive.
The purpose is unclear; the summary does not convey the main idea
or major points of the original selection;
Word choice is confusing or misleading.
Grammar, Usage, Mechanics, and Spelling
There are few or no errors in mechanics, usage, grammar, or spelling.
There are some errors in mechanics, usage, grammar, or spelling.
There are serious errors in mechanics, usage, grammar, or spelling.
Serious errors in me- chanics, usage, gram- mar, or spelling make the summary difficult to understand.

Genre and Subgenre

Hello guys!

This is your project for the weekend!

Objective:  Students will create five illustrated book covers.  Each book cover should feature a different subgenre.  They can be real books or imagined, but each must include the following:

Requirements:
  1. The genre and subgenre at the top of the book cover
  2. The title of the book
  3. A full color or neatly sketched picture showing details that reveal the subgenre.
  4. An explanation of how the story fits into the subgenre.

Subgenres to use for this project (choose five): historical fiction, science fiction, realistic fiction, fantasy, biography, autobiography, fairytale, fable, legend, tall tale, persuasive or informational writing

Example:

  1. Genre and subgenreà

  1. Titleà

3. Full color (or carefully sketched) illustrationà

4.  Why the story belongs in the subgenre listed à

Genre: Folklore    Subgenre: Fable

The Tortoise and the Hare

“The Tortoise and the Hare” is a fable.  I know this because it is a very short story with talking animals.  Also, the moral or lesson of the story is clearly stated at the end.

I want those covers in my desk TUESDAY (Sep 9th) at 11:30am.

Have a great weekend!

WELCOME!

I'm very excited for the challenges that grade 8 might bring this year! And more for the fact that I'll have the chance to work with young men and women that will someday be important mexican citizens.

As this is our official first week of classes, we have lots to establish inside our classroom.
  • Libraries have to be set up and organized.
  • Routnes and Rubrics have to be practiced and understood.
So, this week we will be dedicating ourselves to organizartion, in order to set up a successful year.

Please check this blog every night for your quik homework assignment/activity!
